With electricity tariffs in Pakistan now well above Rs. 50 per unit, the question we hear most at AYS Online is simple: “How much will this AC add to my bill?” This guide gives you the exact figures — watts, amperes and units per hour — for 1 Ton, 1.5 Ton and 2 Ton DC Inverter ACs, plus a live calculator that estimates your own monthly cost.
A 1.5 Ton DC Inverter AC draws roughly 400W to 1800W depending on how hard it is working — about 1800W at startup, settling to 600–900W in cruise mode once the room is cool. That averages close to 1 unit (kWh) per hour. A 1 Ton uses around 0.7 units per hour, and a 2 Ton around 1.5 units per hour.
A non-inverter AC of the same size runs at a constant 1800W, which is why inverters cut running cost by 40–60%.

1. Understanding DC Inverter Technology #
A standard (non-inverter) AC runs its compressor at full speed until the room is cool, then switches off completely. When the room warms up again, it restarts at full power. That start–stop cycle is what consumes so much electricity — every restart pulls peak current.
A DC Inverter AC uses a variable-speed compressor instead. It starts high to pull the room temperature down, then slows to a low-power “cruise mode” to hold it there. In practice a 1.5 Ton inverter may start near 1800 watts and drop to 400–600 watts once the room is settled — and it spends most of the day in that lower band, which is where the saving actually comes from.
Why this matters for your bill: an inverter’s headline wattage is its maximum, not what it draws all day. Judge running cost on the cruise figure, not the peak.
2. AC Electricity Bill Calculator (Pakistan) #
Enter your room size, city, usage hours and tariff slab below. The calculator estimates the tonnage you need and what it will cost to run each month.
AC size and electricity bill calculator #
Enter your room and how you use it. The size follows the room-size guide on this page, and the bill uses your own unit rate.
Your room
When does the AC run?
Your electricity meter
8 hours a day with an inverter 1 ton: 8 h off-peak (Rs. 4,558).
Estimates for a hot day at 24 to 26 °C once the room has cooled, using the base unit rates shown. Your actual bill also carries fuel price adjustments, surcharges, fixed charges and taxes, and depends on the model, thermostat, insulation and outdoor heat. Solar hours are counted as free power from your own panels.
Estimates only. Your actual bill depends on your tariff slab, insulation, sunlight and how often doors are opened.
3. Power Consumption by Capacity #
A. 1 Ton DC Inverter AC #
Ideal for small bedrooms and offices up to 150 sq ft. A 1 Ton Inverter AC is the most efficient size we sell.
- Power draw: 300W – 1300W (cruise around 450–700W)
- Units consumed: roughly 0.7 kWh per hour on average
- Running current: 2.5 – 3.5 amperes
- Estimated monthly bill: Rs. 8,000 – 10,000
B. 1.5 Ton DC Inverter AC (Most Popular) #
The standard choice for bedrooms and TV lounges of 150–225 sq ft. A 1.5 Ton Inverter AC balances cooling power against running cost better than any other size.
- Power draw: 400W – 1800W (cruise around 600–900W)
- Units consumed: roughly 1.0 kWh per hour on average
- Running current: 3.5 – 5.5 amperes
- Estimated monthly bill: Rs. 12,000 – 15,000
C. 2 Ton DC Inverter AC #
Required for large lounges and drawing rooms of 250 sq ft and above. A 2 Ton Inverter AC cools far more air, and consumes accordingly.
- Power draw: 600W – 2600W (cruise around 900–1400W)
- Units consumed: roughly 1.5 kWh per hour on average
- Running current: 6.0 – 8.5 amperes
- Estimated monthly bill: Rs. 18,000 – 24,000
How these bills are calculated: based on 8 hours of use per day for 30 days at roughly Rs. 50 per unit. If you are on a higher protected or non-protected slab, scale the figure accordingly — the calculator above lets you enter your own rate.
4. Comparison Table: Inverter vs Non-Inverter (Watts) #
| Capacity | Non-Inverter (fixed watts) | Inverter AC (variable watts) | Units / hour | Approx. saving |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 Ton | ~1200 W constant | 300 – 1300 W | ~0.7 kWh | 40–50% |
| 1.5 Ton | ~1800 W constant | 400 – 1800 W | ~1.0 kWh | 50–60% |
| 2 Ton | ~2500 W constant | 600 – 2600 W | ~1.5 kWh | 40–50% |
5. Tips to Reduce Electricity Consumption #
- Set the temperature to 26°C. Every degree you raise the setpoint saves roughly 6% electricity. Going from 22°C to 26°C cuts around a quarter off the running cost.
- Clean the filters every two weeks. Dirty filters restrict airflow and force the compressor to run harder and longer in high-power mode.
- Seal the room properly. A gap under a door or an unsealed window keeps warm air coming in, which stops the inverter ever reaching low-power cruise.
- Use Eco or Gear mode. Many models limit current draw to 50% or 70% — ideal overnight when you need holding power rather than fast cooling.
- Let it cruise. Switching the unit off and on repeatedly forces repeated high-power startups and defeats the whole point of inverter technology.
