The vertical freezer range

Is a vertical freezer right for you?
Choose a vertical freezer if you want food sorted in drawers, have limited floor space, or want a matching fridge and freezer pair. No-frost models never need defrosting. Choose a chest deep freezer instead if you store a lot of meat, want the lowest running cost, or face long load-shedding, because an upright freezer loses its cold faster each time the door opens.

You will store about 28 kg: 18 kg of Qurbani meat plus 10 kg of everyday food. A 11 cubic foot vertical freezer fits it with room for air to move. It will be less than half full after Eid, so a smaller freezer or a convertible model that can run as a fridge would save electricity.
Estimates. Meat per animal varies a lot with the animal: a goat or sheep often gives around 12 to 20 kg and a cow around 100 to 180 kg (7 shares), so adjust the figures to yours. A tightly packed freezer holds about 16 kg of food per cubic foot; loose bags of meat and the baskets bring that down to about 13 kg in a chest freezer and 11 kg in a vertical freezer with drawers. The size includes about 10% room for air to move. USDA guidance: a full freezer kept closed holds a safe temperature for about 48 hours, a half-full one about 24 hours.

Choosing a freezer
Is a vertical freezer better than a deep freezer?

Is a vertical freezer good for load shedding?
It works, but a chest freezer is better. An upright freezer loses cold every time the door opens, because cold air falls out. Keep the door shut during power cuts and keep it full.
