What is the difference between QLED and OLED?
The names look similar but the technologies work in opposite ways, and that single difference explains everything else:
QLED is an LED TV with a quantum dot layer. A backlight shines through the panel, and the quantum dots make the colours purer and brighter. Because there’s a backlight, a QLED can get very bright — but it can’t switch a pixel fully off, so blacks are dark grey rather than true black.
So what is OLED? OLED has no backlight at all. Every pixel makes its own light and switches off completely when it needs to be black. That gives perfect blacks and infinite contrast — but the pixels can’t get as bright, and static images left on screen for years can leave a faint permanent mark, known as burn-in.
