15 bar pump espresso for home
Espresso is made by pushing hot water through finely ground coffee under pressure, and the EC685.M is rated at 15 bar pump pressure. Pressure is what pulls the oils from the coffee and builds the crema on top of a short shot. As an espresso and cappuccino machine, it covers a straight espresso before work as well as milk drinks for guests in the evening.
ESE pods and the 1.1 litre tank
The machine works with ESE pods. ESE (Easy Serving Espresso) pods are pre-measured portions of ground coffee pressed inside filter paper, so there is no weighing or tamping and very little mess to clean. The 1.1 litre water tank covers several drinks before a refill. Using filtered water and descaling as the manual describes helps in areas with hard tap water.
